Il percorso Passport.Unito online e lo sviluppo delle soft skills: confronto tra partecipanti al percorso e gruppo di controllo

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the topic of soft skills by focusing on the tools aimed at enhancing them and, particularly, on the Passport.Unito online path. This tool is part of the Passport project, created by the University of Turin with the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo, and it is composed of a platform that makes available, for free, an online path that allows all students of the University of Turin to independently assess and develop their transversal skills (Ricchiardi et al., 2018). This thesis is divided into three chapters. In the first one some definitions of competence and different models of soft skills will be presented. Moreover, in this chapter the link between the academic world and transversal skills and between the latter and the working context and employability will be analyzed. The second focuses on the tools to enhance transversal skills: some extracurricular activities will be mentioned but the focus will be mainly on the methods that can be adopted within the universities to encourage the development of the soft skills of their students, which can be differentiated into specific training and integration of the teaching of soft skills within university didactics. Finally, the third focuses on the research project carried out, which was attended by 355 subjects for the group of participants in the path and 187 for the control group. Both a soft skills model (the Passport model; Ricchiardi et al., 2018) developed and adopted within the University of Turin and a transversal skills development project promoted by the University will be presented. The focus will be on a specific tool created within this project, the Passport.Unito platform. The presentation of this online path will constitute the context of the research activity carried out, which has analyzed, through descriptive analysis and t tests for paired samples and independent samples: the information obtained from the comparative analysis of the scores obtained at T1 by the subjects that made up the group of participants in the path and those belonging to the control group; the data collected from the compiling of the specific soft skills assessment tool created for the Passport project (the PassporTest; Ricchiardi et al., 2018) by those who completed the Passport.Unito online path (group of participants in the path) in two times, at T1, before starting the path, and at T2, at its conclusion; the data collected through the compiling, again in two stages, of a questionnaire based on the PassporTest (Ricchiardi et al., 2018) by subjects who have not completed the Passport.Unito path (control group); finally, the information obtained from the comparative analysis of the scores obtained at T2 by the two groups of subjects. The aim of this research project was to investigate and demonstrate, through a comparison between the group of participants in the path and the control group, the effectiveness of the Passport.Unito online tool in fostering the development of the transversal skills of those who use it. From these analysis it was possible to obtain both descriptive statistics, useful for having an overview and a summary of the main features of the two groups of subjects and their levels on the transversal skills considered, and inferential statistics, used to verify the presence of statistically significant differences between the scores obtained at T1 and those obtained at T2 within the same groups of subjects and between the two different groups. Finally, the results of the study were discussed with reference to the literature and the research on the topic and in relation to soft skills development practices.

Lo scopo del presente elaborato è quello di analizzare il tema delle soft skills focalizzandosi sugli strumenti volti al loro potenziamento e, nello specifico, sul percorso Passport.Unito online. Tale strumento è composto da una piattaforma che rende disponibile, in modo gratuito, un percorso online che permette a tutti gli studenti dell'Università degli Studi di Torino di valutare e sviluppare autonomamente le proprie competenze trasversali (Ricchiardi et al., 2018). La presente tesi si articola in tre capitoli. Nel primo verranno presentate alcune definizioni di competenza e diversi modelli di soft skills. Inoltre, in questo capitolo verrà analizzato il legame tra il mondo accademico e le competenze trasversali e tra quest'ultime e il contesto lavorativo e l'employability. Il secondo si concentra sugli strumenti per potenziare le competenze trasversali: verranno citate alcune attività extracurricolari ma ci si focalizzerà prevalentemente sui metodi adottabili all'interno degli Atenei per favorire lo sviluppo delle soft skills dei propri studenti, differenziabili in training specifici e nell'integrazione dell'insegnamento delle soft skills all'interno della didattica universitaria. Infine, il terzo si focalizza sul progetto di ricerca realizzato, al quale hanno partecipato 355 soggetti per il gruppo dei partecipanti al percorso e 187 per il gruppo di controllo. Verrà presentato un modello di soft skills (il modello Passport; Ricchiardi et al., 2018) elaborato e adottato all'interno dell'Università degli Studi di Torino, nonché un progetto di sviluppo delle competenze trasversali promosso dall'Ateneo. Il focus sarà posto su uno strumento specifico creato all'interno di tale progetto, la piattaforma Passport.Unito. La presentazione di tale percorso online costituirà il contesto dell'attività di ricerca svolta, la quale ha analizzato, attraverso delle analisi descrittive e dei t test per campioni appaiati e per campioni indipendenti: le informazioni ricavate dalle analisi di confronto dei punteggi ottenuti al T1 dai soggetti che componevano il gruppo dei partecipanti al percorso e da quelli facenti parte del gruppo di controllo; i dati raccolti attraverso la compilazione dello specifico strumento di valutazione delle soft skills creato per il progetto Passport (il PassporTest; Ricchiardi et al., 2018) da parte di coloro che hanno completato il percorso online Passport.Unito (gruppo dei partecipanti allo studio) in due tempi, al T1, prima di iniziare il percorso, e al T2, al suo completamento; i dati raccolti attraverso la compilazione, sempre in due tempi, di un questionario basato sul PassporTest (Ricchiardi et al., 2018) da parte di soggetti che non hanno svolto il percorso Passport.Unito (gruppo di controllo); infine, le informazioni ricavate dalle analisi di confronto dei punteggi ottenuti al T2 dai due gruppi di soggetti. L'obiettivo di tale progetto di ricerca era quello di indagare e dimostrare, attraverso un confronto tra il gruppo dei partecipanti al percorso e il gruppo di controllo, l'efficacia dello strumento online Passport.Unito nel favorire lo sviluppo delle competenze trasversali di coloro che lo utilizzano. Da queste analisi è stato possibile ricavare sia delle statistiche descrittive, utili per avere una visione d'insieme e sintetica delle caratteristiche principali dei due gruppi di soggetti e dei loro livelli sulle competenze trasversali considerate, sia delle statistiche inferenziali, utilizzate per verificare la presenza di differenze statisticamente significative tra i punteggi ottenuti al T1 e quelli ottenuti al T2 all'interno degli stessi gruppi di soggetti e tra i due differenti gruppi. Infine, i risultati dello studio sono stati discussi in riferimento alla letteratura e alla ricerca sul tema e in relazione alle pratiche di sviluppo delle soft skills.
