Ragnar Lothbrok tra storia e leggenda

This work is essentially based on the analysis of the figure of a bold and semi-legendary hero who probably lived in Denmark in the ninth century called Ragnar Lothbrok and also on the Viking people, the population to which he belonged. In the first part it was analyzed the identity of viking people as well as their historical, social and cultural context of reference; however the main focus of the work is the viking king Ragnar Lothbrok whose existence is uncertain. Many sources were collected and compared in order to establish the historical existence of this figure. The main purpose of this work is that of trying to answer to this question: has Ragnar Lothbrok really existed in history?

Questo elaborato si concentra essenzialmente sull'analisi della figura di un audace eroe semileggendario della Danimarca del IX, Ragnar Lothbrok, e sul popolo cui apparteneva: i vichinghi. Nella prima parte è stata analizzata l'identità del popolo vichingo, nonché il contesto storico, sociale e culturale di riferimento; tuttavia il focus principale del testo è la figura del re vichingo Ragnar Lothbrok la cui esistenza è incerta. Sono state raccolte e confrontate le fonti storiche e leggendarie per stabilire la veridicità storica di questo personaggio. L'obiettivo principale è stato quello di tentare di rispondere alla domanda: Ragnar Lothbrok è veramente esistito nella storia?
