This research will be carried out with reference to the Italian job titles in the field of tourism. Two are the Italian professions taken into account: guida turistica and accompagnatore turistico. The first one indicates a person who has specific training and artistic knowledge, while the latter indicates a person who is generally responsible for accompanying guests in hotels and help them with the transfers. These two professions are among the most popular in Italy in the examined field and are separated and ruled by Italian law. In Britain, where there is no such distinctions: the term tour guide is apparently used both with the meaning of guida turistica and accompagnatore turistico. The research is meant to be useful for the purpose of translation: a neat distinction of the two terms allows the identification of the two different jobs without incurring into lexical ambiguity.
