Il cervello empatico e il cervello antisociale: una rassegna neuroscientifica

This thesis is a systematic review of various fMRI and TMS studies on empathy focusing on the neural systems underpinning its cognitive and affective processes. In particular, this work focuses on the consequences of damage or impairment of the frontal regions in individuals with psychopathy, dysexecutive syndrome and acquired sociopathy and on the following dysfunctional and antisocial behaviors. Finally, it is pointed out the importance and the contribution of neuroscience in trials, in order to assess the ability of understanding and taking action of the defendant with one of the three conditions described in the thesis.

Questa tesi compilativa si presenta come una rassegna di studi sul funzionamento empatico, delle aree cerebrali e dei circuiti neurali alla base dei processi cognitivi e processi affettivi, osservati con fMRI e TMS. In particolare, il lavoro si incentra sulle conseguenze di un danno o di una compromissione delle regioni frontali nei soggetti con psicopatia, sindrome disesecutiva e sociopatia acquisita e dei comportamenti disfunzionali e antisociali che ne derivano. Infine, si evidenzia il ruolo e il contributo nelle neuroscienze nel processo penale per la valutazione capacità di intendere e di volere dell'imputato che presenta una delle tre condizioni considerate.
