My Master Thesis is focused on the characterization of quantum-optical properties of single photon emitters in solid-state systems. The activity is organized into two parts. The first one concerns the so-called color centers in diamond, while the second one concerns quantum dots in 2D materials. The color centers are solid-state defects that can display single-photon emitter properties. Regarding the second part, if two mono-layers of the same material are overlapped at a specific angle, a so-called Moirè interference pattern can form and the pattern points turn out to be quantum dots that can emit individual photons. In both cases, the defects are characterized at low temperatures by means of single photon sensitive confocal photoluminescence microscopy.
