Innovation and entrepreneurial systems: a comparison between the Centro region of Portugal and Piedmont in Italy

The objective of the paper is to compare the regional innovation and entrepreneurship systems between the Centro region in Portugal and the Piedmont region in Italy and to understand how two regions characterised by different historical and socio-economic contexts, but both moderate innovators according to the Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2023, face the challenges of innovation. Through a theoretical analysis and empirical research based on data from 2014 to 2021, the aim is to identify the factors that determine the success or difficulties of innovation systems in these territories. The results obtained are in line with the literature presented.

L’ obiettivo dell’ elaborato è quello di confrontare i sistemi di innovazione regionale e imprenditorialità tra la regione Centro in Portogallo e il Piemonte in Italia e comprendere come due regioni caratterizzate da contesti storici e socio-economici differenti, ma entrambe moderate innovatrici secondo il Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2023, affrontano le sfide dell'innovazione. Attraverso un'analisi teorica e una ricerca empirica basata su dati dal 2014 al 2021, l’obiettivo è identificare i fattori che determinano il successo o le difficoltà dei sistemi innovativi in questi territori. I risultati ottenuti risultano essere in linea con la letteratura presentata.
