Due popoli, due stati: un caso studio per analizzare l'evoluzione delle forme di violenza nei secoli.

For months our daily lives have been disrupted by the brutality of images and videos of the war in the Middle East. For years, whenever we hear about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we are offered the famous and redundant two-state solution. Never, however, following this path, has there been a brake on that violence which I would like to be able to say unheard. "Two peoples, two states". This is the phrase that has prompted me, even before writing, to think about the real feasibility of this solution. What were the motivations that led the two peoples to conflict? What are the dynamics? And what are the possible solutions? It seems utopian, in our days, even to try to imagine a point of arrival in this story and be able to close definitively this tragic chapter of history. However, it would also be satisfactory to achieve a real "truce". The complexity of this conflict has made it one of the greatest puzzles of our contemporaneity, such as to see the incessant succession of politicians, diplomats and generals among the best in the world succumb under the weight of international negotiations. Economic, topographical and political interests are interwoven here with religious dynamics that contribute to making it one of the bloodiest conflicts in the world. The birth of terrorism opened one of the darkest seasons in our history, awakening in the West that sense of insecurity which seemed to be overcome after the end of the Cold War. The reference to a historical past, ideologies that falsify reality, war against the enemies of God and the return to the Holy Land are the framework. All this contributes to creating one of the most complex and frightening pictures in our history. It is precisely the presence of all these elements in a single conflict that makes it the perfect case study for an analysis of the different forms of violence over the centuries. How can the Israeli-Palestinian conflict be defined?

Da mesi la nostra quotidianità è sconvolta dalla brutalità delle immagini e dei video della guerra in Medio Oriente. Da anni, ogni qualvolta si senta parlare del conflitto israelo-palestinese ci viene proposta la famosa e ridondante soluzione dei due stati. Mai, però, seguendo questa via, si è posto un freno a quella violenza che vorrei poter dire inedita. “Due popoli, due stati”. Questa è la frase che mi ha spinto, prima ancora di scrivere, a pensare alla reale fattibilità di questa soluzione. Quali furono le motivazioni che portarono i due popoli al conflitto? Quali le dinamiche? E quali le possibili soluzioni? Sembra utopistico, ai giorni nostri, anche solo provare ad immaginare un punto di arrivo in questa vicenda e poter chiudere definitivamente questo tragico capitolo di storia. Tuttavia, anche il poter giungere ad una vera “tregua” sarebbe soddisfacente. La complessità di questo conflitto l’ha reso uno dei maggiori enigmi della nostra contemporaneità, tale da vedere l’incessante susseguirsi di politici, diplomatici e generali tra i migliori del mondo soccombere sotto il peso delle trattative internazionali. Interessi economici, topografici e politici si intrecciano, qui, con dinamiche religiose che contribuiscono a renderlo uno dei conflitti più sanguinosi al mondo. La nascita del terrorismo aprì una delle stagioni più cupe della nostra storia, risvegliando in Occidente quel senso di insicurezza che sembrava superato dopo la fine della Guerra fredda. Il riferimento ad un passato storico, le ideologie che falsificano la realtà, la guerra contro i nemici di Dio e il ritorno alla Terra Santa fanno da cornice. Tutto questo concorre a creare uno dei quadri più complessi e spaventosi della nostra storia. Ė proprio la presenza di tutti questi elementi in un unico conflitto a renderlo il caso studio perfetto per un’analisi delle differenti forme di violenza nel corso dei secoli. Come può essere definito, dunque, il conflitto israelo-palestinese?
