With this work, that analyzes the Sofoclean tragedy 'Ajax', the authour means to carefully examine the figure of Ajax. The hero, who refused Athena's help on the battlefield and for that reason transcended the limits of human action, is punished with the most deceitful weapon with which gods annihilate humans' will: madness. This work aims to investigate the solitude of the hero in the tragedy: the complexity of communications between Ajax and the other characters in the play symbolizes the gap between him and that world in which there is no more space for the heroic ideal which he, alone, represents.

Attraverso uno studio della tragedia Aiace di Sofocle, il presente lavoro intende indagare la figura di questo eroe che, dopo aver rifiutato l'aiuto di Atena in battaglia e aver quindi superato il limite dell'agire umano, viene punito con l'arma più subdola con cui gli dèi annientano la volontà umana: la follia. Il presente lavoro è teso a indagare la solitudine dell'eroe tragico nel dramma: la difficoltà comunicativa tra l'eroe e gli altri personaggi della tragedia è il simbolo della distanza tra Aiace e un mondo dove non c'è più spazio per il modello eroico di cui lui è l'ultimo rappresentante.
