Dalle Alpi alle Ande: i migranti piemontesi in Argentina

The purpose of my thesis is to analyze the characteristics of migratory flows developed between Piedmont and Argentina since the 1880s and the incidence they have had over the years. After focusing on the mechanisms of migration flows in general and on the history of migration in Italy in the first chapter, in the second I have dealt with the migratory theme from an anthropological point of view, focusing on the way that such a vast science, Cultural Anthropology, has decided to deal with the broad theme of migration with all its aspects. After analyzing the concepts of culture and identity, two key aspects of anthropological studies undoubtedly linked to the theme of migrations, in the third chapter I took into consideration the specific case of migrants from Piedmont to Argentina. Finally, in the fourth and final chapter I was able to observe through field research work, using specific questions addressed to relatives of Piedmont immigrants who are still living in Argentina, how the link between our peninsula and this South American country is still very strong and how the memory of immigrants' relatives lives in those who were fortunate to have direct contact with them when they were still alive.

L'obbiettivo della seguente tesi di laurea è analizzare le caratteristiche dei flussi migratori sviluppatisi tra Piemonte ed Argentina a partire dagli anni '80 dell'800 e l'incidenza che essi hanno avuto nel corso degli anni. Dopo essermi soffermata sui meccanismi di funzionamento dei flussi migratori in generale e sulla storia delle migrazioni in Italia nel primo capitolo, nel secondo ho affrontato il tema migratorio partendo da un punto di vista antropologico, concentrandomi sul modo in cui una scienza così vasta come l'antropologia culturale abbia deciso di affrontare l'ampio tema delle migrazioni con tutte le sue sfaccettature. Dopo aver analizzato i concetti di cultura e d'identità, due aspetti chiave degli studi antropologici indubbiamente legati anche all'ambito delle migrazioni, sono passata al terzo capitolo nel quale ho preso in considerazione il caso specifico dei migranti diretti dal Piemonte all'Argentina. Infine, nel quarto ed ultimo capitolo ho potuto osservare attraverso un lavoro di ricerca sul campo, servendomi di domande specifiche rivolte a parenti di immigrati piemontesi residenti tutt'ora in Argentina, come il legame tra la nostra penisola ed il paese sudamericano sia tuttora molto forte ed il ricordo dei parenti immigrati sia vivo in quanti hanno avuto la fortuna di avere un contatto diretto con loro quando erano ancora in vita.
