Steroidi anabolizzanti e situazione degli atleti transgender ed intersessuali nello sport

Endogenous steroids, as testosterone, are naturally producted by human body, parcetipating at the hormonal regulation and the development of primary and secondary sexual traits. Alterations to the chemical structure of testosterone allow the creation of artificial steroids with anabolic and androgenic effects, with the purpose of doping and get competitive advantages in sport. Furthermore, steroids are part of hormone teraphy useful to sex switches in transgender people. This dissertation has the purpose to analyze the current situation of transgender and intersex athlets in sport.

Gli steroidi endogeni, come il testosterone, vengono prodotti naturalmente dall’organismo, contribuendo alla regolazione ormonale e allo sviluppo dei caratteri sessuali primari e secondari. Alterazioni a carico della struttura del testosterone permettono la creazione di steroidi artificiali con effetti androgeni e anabolizzanti, che vengono sfruttati a scopo di doping per trarre vantaggi durante le competizioni sportive. Allo stesso tempo gli steroidi costituiscono parte della terapia ormonale atta al cambiamento di sesso delle persone transgender. La presente dissertazione si propone di approfondire l’attuale situazione di atleti transgender e intersessuali nel mondo dello sport.
