La veicolazione dell’umorismo all’interno del sottotitolaggio audio-visivo: Analisi del film “Due biglietti alla lotteria”

The aim of the following paper is to analyse the spread of humour in audiovisual translation, with a focus on the main translational processes and strategies used in subtitling. The work is centred on the problems noticed by the translator of multimedial texts when it comes to humourism and the main solutions outlined during the years. This paper intends to offer a cultural and historical overview of audio-visual translation to its readers, dwelling on the target culture and its main distribution channels, analysing, furthermore, the subtitling. The technical and linguistic constraints of subtitles are then contextualized, as the semiotic cohesion between the subtitles and the screen, or in other words, the visual channel. The transposition of humourism rests on two translatable binaries, the equivalence in all its shapes and the untranslatability, and it is contextualised by a classification of audio-visual humoristic jokes. As follows, it is observed the importance of the translator’s mediation and of the socio-cultural context within it occurs throughout the problems placed by the transposition of the ECR (extralinguistic cultural-bound references), aiming the paper towards a proposal of some humoristic subtitles of the film “Two Lottery Tickets” (2016). Therefore, the goal is the translatable resolution of complicated humoristic jokes within the film through the several transferal proposals described throughout the paper.

Lo scopo del seguente studio è di analizzare la veicolazione dell’umorismo all’interno della traduzione audio-visiva, focalizzandosi sulle modalità e strategie traduttive impiegate nel sottotitolaggio. La ricerca si è concentrata sulle problematiche riscontrate dal traduttore di testi multimediali quando viene ad interfacciarsi con l’umorismo e le principali soluzioni delineatesi nel corso degli anni. La dissertazione si propone di offrire al lettore una panoramica storico-culturale della traduzione audio-visiva, soffermandosi sulla cultura di destinazione e sui principali canali di distribuzione della stessa, per poi analizzare più nello specifico il sottotitolaggio. Sono quindi inquadrati i vincoli tecnici e linguistici dello stesso, nonché la coesione semiotica fra il sottotitolaggio e lo schermo, ossia il canale visivo. La trasposizione dell’umorismo poggia su due binari traduttivi, l’equivalenza in tutte le sue forme, e l’intraducibilità, ed è contestualizzata attraverso una classificazione delle battute umoristiche audio-visuali. Di seguito si osserva l’importanza della mediazione del traduttore e del contesto socioculturale in cui essa avviene, attraverso le problematiche poste nella resa dei riferimenti culturali extralinguistici (ECR), finalizzando lo studio con una proposta di alcuni sottotitoli umoristici del film “Due biglietti alla lotteria” (2016). L’obiettivo è dunque la risoluzione traduttiva di battute umoristiche problematiche all’interno del film attraverso le diverse proposte traduttive illustrate nel corso della dissertazione.
