This thesis is intended to highlight the way the film industry has changed as a consequence of the advent of Netflix. It underlines the main factors that led to the rise of the streaming services as an alternative to cinema and how Netflix, in particular, revolutionized the traditional patterns of the sector. The dissertation can be divided into four main sections: 1. The first one is an introduction to the film industry, in particular referred to the traditional cinema. It will illustrate the marketplace, how the demand and supply interact and market components. 2. The second part goes more in depth through the analysis of the business factors needed for the creation of a film, the management approaches and the marketing strategies a firm could use in order to promote and distribute a film. 3. The third section is about the new challenges and threats the industry has to face. It analyses the changes caused by globalization and digitalization and the new market trends, introducing a new element of discussion: the Streaming Video on Demand. 4. The last part concerns, instead, the streaming platform Netflix. It includes an analysis of its business model and its marketing strategies, to conclude with the leadership and management approach within the company. Finally, the conclusions will discuss the current situation of the industry and the future possibilities of the online streaming.
