Dolby Atmos: dall'Ambisonico alle applicazioni nel mondo contemporaneo

It is undeniable that Dolby Atmos systems are experiencing a moment of rapid growth: from the implementation of this technology in the Apple Music streaming platform to the gradual adoption of 7.1.4 systems by an increasing number of recording studios the topic is on the lips of all experts in the field and beyond. Although the debate regarding the potential introduced by these systems and their actual development in the future is particularly heated, less discussed are their origins, dating as far back as the 1970s. This dissertation is intended to be an introduction to the concept of Ambisonic and the birth of the space-based audio systems that led to today's Dolby Atmos layouts. In addition to this, I thought it would be useful to accompany my talk with the creation of a soundtrack in Ambisonic, through which I hope to be able to demonstrate the accessibility of this technology to any enthusiast who was planning to produce audio material in this format (potentially convertible at a later date to Dolby Atmos).

E' innegabile che i sistemi Dolby Atmos stiano vivendo un momento di rapida crescita: dall'implementazione di questa tecnologia nella piattaforma di streaming musicale Apple Music alla progressiva adozione di impianti 7.1.4 da parte di un numero sempre maggiore di studi di registrazione l'argomento è sulla bocca di tutti gli esperti del settore e non solo. Sebbene il dibattito riguardante le potenzialità introdotte da questi sistemi e il loro effettivo sviluppo in futuro sia particolarmente acceso, meno discusse sono le origini, risalenti addirittura agli anni '70 del secolo scorso. Questa dissertazione vuole essere un'introduzione al concetto di Ambisonico e alla nascita dei sistemi audio spaziali che hanno portato agli odierni impianti Dolby Atmos. Oltre a ciò ho ritenuto utile affiancare al mio discorso la realizzazione di una colonna sonora in Ambisonico, grazie alla quale spero di riuscire a dimostrare l'accessibilità di questa tecnologia a qualunque appassionato che avesse intenzione di produrre del materiale audio in questo formato (potenzialmente convertibile in un secondo momento in Dolby Atmos).
