When the printing press was first invented the consequences of the fast and rapid production of books led to a response from the law in the creation of the statute of Anne. As technology progressed similar situations of technology progressing and requiring the law to intervene were repeated. Today the newest form of this race is the popularization of blockchain and NFT technology. This new technology presents an unprecedented rate of progress and a unique set of characteristics that make it a challenge to legislate. This paper will explore this new technology, the characteristics that make it hard to legislate and regulate, what legislative questions it raises and how current legislation may apply to it. Lastly, the paper will explore possible solutions for the questions presented. There will be a focus on the exploration of the NFT technology and its relation to copyright law as this aspect of the technology is seldom explored in current literature.
