tesiThree recruitment models are analyzed: the conscript army, the all-volunteer army and the private military company. By comparison between the three and with the help of data from various disciplines, integrated on a historical, as well as on a contemporary perspective, in each chapter we try, in the first instance, to highlight the current trends. This is made with the aim of being able to detect the outliers and suggest explanations about them. Questions like "which states resort to a given model and why?" are, thus, used in this essay to get the overall picture and then focus on the fundamental issue of clearing whether the triad under exam is of a truly evolutionary kind or if it's just rooted in the current geopolitical situation, appearing evolutionary only to a contemporary observer. This last hypothesis would entail the possibility for it to be turned upside-down in the future. On this basis, inferences on future developments of military recruitment models can be made.

Abstract

tesiThree recruitment models are analyzed: the conscript army, the all-volunteer army and the private military company.
