The present work explores the intricate and long historical pathway of the right to abortion in the United States of America. The work, through a historical retracement, is organized around the notorious legal case of 1973, Roe v. Wade. Indeed, the first part addresses the analysis of the events that led to the constitutional recognition of the right to abortion in Roe v. Wade. Then, Roe, as well as its immediate consequences are presented and analysed. Finally, the last part deals with the reconstruction of the legal and social developments, in the years after 1973, that culminated in the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, within the legal case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, resulting in abortion right’s loss of constitutional protection.
