Un parcours dans la littérature du double: un focus sur Un roi sans divertissement de Jean Giono

In this paper, we aimed to briefly retrace the key stages that have significantly marked the literary history of the theme of the double, highlighting its evolution over the centuries and the changes that have characterized it in relation to different literary poetics. In this regard, we have selected some of the most emblematic authors and works of the literary panorama of the double, in order to analyze its various facets and to reflect on the true meaning of the double. This preliminary research served as the starting point for a more in-depth study focused on Jean Giono's novel Un roi sans divertissement, highlighting the relationship between the theme of the double and other underlying themes in the work, such as the omnipresence of evil and the absurdity of the human condition. These observations were made possible through an investigation based on multiple narrative levels, including the role and personality of the main characters, as well as the symbolic value of spaces and colors, which provide an interesting and significant framework within the novel.

Con la presente dissertazione ci siamo posti l'obiettivo di ripercorrere brevemente le tappe che hanno caratterizzato in modo significativo la storia letteraria del tema del doppio, andando a sottolineare la sua evoluzione nel corso dei secoli e i cambiamenti che lo hanno contraddistinto in relazione alle diverse poetiche letterarie. A tal proposito, abbiamo selezionato alcuni tra gli autori e le opere maggiormente emblematici del panorama del doppio letterario, per poi analizzarne le diverse sfaccettature e volgere a una riflessione incentrata sul vero e proprio significato del doppio. Questa ricerca preliminare è il punto da cui siamo partiti per proporre, in seguito, un lavoro di approfondimento incentrato sul romanzo di Jean Giono "Un roi sans divertissement" che andasse a mettere in evidenza la relazione presente tra il tema del doppio e altri temi sottesi all'opera, quali l'onnipresenza del male e l'assurdità della condizione umana. Tali osservazioni sono state possibili grazie a un'indagine svolta su più livelli narrativi, ovvero sul ruolo e la personalità dei personaggi principali, nonché sul valore simbolico assunto dagli spazi e dai colori, che rappresentano una cornice interessante e significativa all'interno del romanzo.
