La lingua tra pensiero e genere: dall'ipotesi relativista al linguaggio di genere e l'esperimento linguistico del Làadan

The following paper explores the relationship between language, thought, and gender. Starting with an analysis of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis (along with its most relevant predecessors and successors) and demonstrating how language influences thought and culture, it then examines the implications this assumption has on the category of gender. Through the ideas of various feminists, gendered language and potential forms of linguistic sexism inherent in languages such as English, French, and Italian are discussed, along with ways to avoid them from the perspective of inclusive language. Lastly, Láadan, the "women's language" invented in the novel Native Tongue, is used to further reflect on the possibility of altering certain thought patterns and cultural models regarding gender through language, which becomes the true tool for social change.

Il seguente elaborato si interroga sulla relazione che soggiace tra lingua, pensiero e genere. Partendo dall'analisi dell'ipotesi Sapir-Whorf (coi suoi predecessori e successori più rilevanti) e dimostrando come il linguaggio influenzi pensiero e cultura, ci si chiede poi che implicazioni questo assunto abbia sulla categoria di genere. Attraverso il pensiero di diverse femministe, viene così trattato il linguaggio di genere e le eventuali forme di sessismo linguistico che sottostanno a lingue come inglese, francese e italiano e come evitarle in un'ottica di linguaggio inclusivo. Infine, viene utilizzato il làadan, la "lingua delle donne" inventata all'interno del romanzo Native Tongue come espediente per riflettere ulteriormente sulla possibilità di mutare determinati modelli di pensiero e schemi culturali riguardanti il gender attraverso il linguaggio, che si configura in questo senso come la vera arma di un cambiamento sociale.
