The aim of this thesis is to explore the translation of humour in audiovisual products. The first chapter will draw from both Humour Studies and Audiovisual Studies in order to provide an overview of the most prominent literature regarding humour and humour as a translation problem, especially in the field of audiovisual translation (AVT). As far as methodology is concerned, this study will be based on the analysis of the Canadian sitcom "Schitt’s Creek" (2015-2020), which is comprised of six seasons and a total of 80 episodes. This show was chosen not only because it provides an exceptional case study for the translation of humour in the audiovisual field, but also because "Schitt’s Creek" had yet to be the subject of any prominent Italian AVT study. The second chapter will describe all translation problems that are posed by the show’s comedic nature, whereas the third and final chapter will be dedicated to the translation of the pilot episode of "Schitt’s Creek", “Our Cup Runneth Over”.
