La ricezione critica del Trionfo della morte di Gabriele d'Annunzio

The paper analyzes the critical reception of the Triumph of Death, a novel written and published by Gabriele D'Annunzio in 1894, following a chronological thread. In the first chapter we focus on what was the troubled genesis of the work and on the various and changing judgments that its author himself offered on his work, on his choices of poetics and, finally, on the work itself; the second chapter analyzes how the work was received at the time of publication and throughout the writer's life, paying particular attention to the important contribution of some influential foreign critics; finally, the third chapter is dedicated to more in-depth and recent critical studies, which judge the novel from various new angles, sometimes revealing the superficiality and inadequacy of what had been the previous criticism. From the comparison between the different contributions, it emerges that the novel has been the subject of interpretations also in more or less evident contradiction between them.

L'elaborato analizza la ricezione critica del Trionfo della morte, romanzo scritto e pubblicato da Gabriele D’Annunzio nel 1894, seguendo un filo cronologico. Nel primo capitolo ci si sofferma su quella che è stata la travagliata genesi dell’opera e sui vari e mutevoli giudizi che lo stesso suo autore ha offerto sul suo operato, sulle sue scelte di poetica e, infine, sull’opera stessa; nel secondo capitolo si analizza come l’opera sia stata recepita al momento della pubblicazione e nel corso della vita dello scrittore, prestando particolare attenzione all’importante contributo di alcuni influenti critici stranieri; infine, il terzo capitolo è dedicato agli studi critici più approfonditi e recenti, che giudicano il romanzo sotto diverse nuove angolature, talvolta svelando la superficialità e inadeguatezza di quella che era stata la critica precedente. Dal confronto tra i diversi contributi, emerge come il romanzo sia stato oggetto di interpretazioni anche in contraddizione più o meno palese tra loro. ​
