In this thesis work, we will see, in a structural way, the causes that have led to the plastic materials shortage situation that we are experiencing today and the economic repercussions that the phenomenon brings with it. In the first chapter we will briefly analyze what polymers are, how they are obtained and what are their main uses in the industry. In the second chapter we will talk about oil, an indispensable element at the base of the supply chain, and how the price of oil and polymers are closely linked. The third chapter treats of the contributing causes that have led to the lack of plastics mainly in the EU and US market. While in the last two chapters we will explain how the phenomenon affects the world of production, for example on packaging, and how in some cases the price increases can also affect the final products that consumers will buy.
