Dalla crisi dei mutui subprime alla crisi del debito sovrano europeo: come hanno risposto i governi?

This thesis seeks to explain the similarities between two of the major financial crisis that took place in the last century: the subprime mortgages crisis (2008) and the European sovereign debt crisis (2010). In the first chapter I would like to examine the situation by explaining in detail the causes and the key historic events that gave rise to the U.S. catastrophe, that is the subprime one. Consequently, I will focus on the consequences and especially on the policies that the government and the Fed adopted to try to solve the situation. The same procedure will be applied to the European sovereign debt crisis (2010) that will be the topic of the second chapter. In this case it is the behavior of the European Central Bank to achieve better results and conditions that will be considered. Finally, there will be a chapter dedicated to the main differences between the two strategies of the central banks.
