Il ruolo della lingua spagnola nel processo di integrazione europea

ENG - ABSTRACT The present thesis aims to investigate the origins, the evolution and the role played by the Spanish language within the boundaries of the European Union and throughout the whole world by adopting the means of a scrupulous inquiry. Said academic work ramifies itself starting from a macro-theme (i.e., the EU) so to arrive analysing with accuracy the Spanish language in the above-mentioned European context. As the objective of the present thesis concerns the description of both the past and current situations in the EU of the Spanish language, in the following pages the international and communicational instructions, as well as some cases managed by the Court of Justice, will be tackled so to enunciate the most relevant principles lying at the core of the present research. Another element to be investigated regards the modalities through which the phenomenon of multilingualism is faced by the European institutions, with this point being comprehensive of a retrospective historical overview as well. The present work is subdivided into two chapters. In the first section, a brief starting introduction about the tasks fulfilled by the European institutions will be offered. Here, the EU will be analysed in the light of its particular role as global lighthouse in the political, economic, and social fields. In this same portion, some space will be dedicated to the main traits of the Spanish language, including an analysis of its origins and of its peculiar traits. Then, the second chapter will tackle the Spanish linguistic politic by portraying its characteristics. At last, the thesis will be concluded with a personal reasoning about the above-mentioned themes. More specifically, a brief consideration about the possible exploitation of the Spanish language will be offered, especially by taking into account the institutional context of the European Union.

ITA - ABSTRACT La presente tesi nasce con l’obiettivo di investigare, attraverso un’attenta e meticolosa analisi, le origini, l’evoluzione ed il ruolo che la lingua spagnola svolge in Spagna, all’interno dell’Unione Europea e nel contesto globale. Il suddetto lavoro si articola a partire da un tema più generico, ossia l’Unione Europea, per poi arrivare ad analizzare con accuratezza l’idioma spagnolo nel medesimo contesto. In quanto lo scopo di questo documento concerne la descrizione della situazione della lingua spagnola, nelle pagine seguenti si prenderanno in considerazione le disposizioni internazionali e comunicative in materia, insieme ad alcuni casi in cui la Corte di Giustizia ha avuto l’occasione di enunciare i principi importanti. Un ulteriore punto di indagine verterà sulle modalità con cui il plurilinguismo è praticato all’interno delle istituzioni comunitarie e come tale fenomeno si è evoluto nel tempo. Il presente lavoro è suddiviso in due capitoli. All’interno della prima sezione si trova una breve introduzione iniziale riguardo ai compiti assolti dall’Unione Europea quale faro politico, economico e sociale del continente. Sempre la medesima sezione, spazio è dedicato alle lingue parlate all’interno dell’Unione Europea. Quindi, all’interno del secondo capitolo si procederà con un’analisi circa la perifrasi “politica linguistica”, descrivendone in seguito le peculiarità rappresentative per il caso spagnolo. In ultima battuta, il presente lavoro di ricerca si conclude con una formulazione personale in merito ai temi trattati dal suddetto documento, all’interno della quale è anche presente una breve considerazione in merito alla possibile valorizzazione ulteriore della lingua spagnola all’interno del contesto istituzionale del Vecchio Continente.
