Gli aspetti della cultura giapponese in Hisaye Yamamoto e Ruth Ozeki

The purpose of this thesis is to identify the elements of Japanese culture in the books of Hisaye Yamamoto and Ruth Ozeki, two Japanese-american writers. I have chosen to study in these pages Hisaye Yamamoto's Seventeen Syllables and Ruth Ozeki's My Year of Meats. From the collection Seventeen Syllables I have selected the short stories ¿Seventeen Syllables¿, ¿The Legend of Miss Sasagawara¿, ¿Yoneko's Earthquake¿, ¿Las Vegas Charley¿ and ¿Life Among the Oil Fields, A Memoir¿. I have analysed with particular attention the aspects of Japanese culture concerning literature, Buddhism and ethics present in the books.

Lo scopo della tesi è quello di identificare gli elementi tipici della cultura giapponese presenti nei libri di Hisaye Yamamoto e Ruth Ozeki, due scrittrici nippo-americane. Ho scelto di analizzare in queste pagine il libro Seventeen Syllables di Hisaye Yamamoto e My Year of Meats di Ruth Ozeki. Dalla raccolta Seventeen Syllables ho scelto di occuparmi in particolare dei racconti ¿Seventeen Syllables¿, ¿The Legend of Miss Sasagawara¿, ¿Yoneko's Earthquake¿, ¿Las Vegas Charley¿ e ¿Life Among the Oil Fields, A Memoir¿. Ho analizzato con particolare attenzione gli aspetti della cultura giapponese concernenti la letteratura, il buddhismo e l'etica presenti nei libri.
