This dissertation will provide an inquiry of the current status and viability of the existing body of international space law analyzed from the standpoint of the growing commercialization and privatization of outer space activities. Firstly, an overview of the scope of application and sources of international space law, as well as the legal status of outer space, will be provided. Secondly, the analysis will focus on the issues of sovereignty and private property rights and claims thereof under international space law. Finally, an outline of the current legal regime governing the commercial exploitation of outer space natural resources will be provided, in order to assess its feasibility in light of the present need and demand for space commercialization.

Abstract
