Raccontare la scienza: La scoperta della Penicillina

The COVID-19 pandemic has kept Italy indoors for more than a year and has changed people's lives in many ways. The change in people's perspectives has certainly led to a change in communication. Thanks to the distance, there has been an explosion of previously unknown but not widely used media, including podcasts. This thesis proposes an analysis of the podcast as a means of communication and dissemination, analysing the elements that constitute and differentiate it, proposing an overview of the reasons why the podcast has had such a significant increase in popularity, and arriving at the creation of a real episode. In order to be able to fully analyse this phenomenon, it was decided to carry out this analysis through the study of a scientific topic that would be proposed as the focus of the podcast itself. The chosen topic is the discovery of penicillin, which has been analysed at a scientific level in such a way that it can be understood even by those who do not have the specific notions to understand a complex subject such as chemistry. This thesis will therefore follow a structure that will allow the reader to understand the process of creating a podcast on a scientific topic, starting from the definition and trivia related to the podcast as a medium, through the study of the central topic, and ending with the application of the skills acquired through the creation of an actual podcast.

La pandemia di COVID-19 ha obbligato l’Italia all’interno delle mura di casa per oltre un anno, apportando modifiche alla vita delle singole persone sotto molteplici aspetti. Il cambiamento di prospettiva che hanno avuto le persone ha sicuramente portato ad un cambiamento anche per quanto riguarda la comunicazione. Grazie alla distanza sono esplosi media fino ad allora conosciuti, ma non diffusi, tra questi i podcast. Questa tesi propone l’analisi del podcast in quanto mezzo di comunicazione e di divulgazione, analizzando gli elementi che lo costituiscono e lo differenziano, proponendo una panoramica riguardante le motivazioni per le quali il podcast abbia avuto un aumento di diffusione così rilevante, per arrivare alla creazione di una vera e propria puntata. Per poter analizzare a pieno questo fenomeno si è deciso di effettuare questa analisi attraverso lo studio di un argomento scientifico che si proponesse come il fulcro del podcast stesso. L’argomento scelto è la scoperta della penicillina, il quale è stato analizzato sul piano scientifico in modo tale da garantire la comprensione anche da chi non possiede le nozioni specifiche per comprendere un argomento complesso come la chimica. Questa tesi, quindi, seguirà una struttura che permetta di comprendere ai lettori il processo di creazione di un podcast a tema scientifico, partendo dalla definizione e dalle curiosità relative al podcast in quanto mezzo di comunicazione, allo studio dell’argomento centrale, fino ad arrivare alla messa in pratica delle competenze acquisite con la creazione di un podcast vero e proprio.
