The present work was accomplished in the framework of the Cooperation Program ¿Food Safety and Fight against Poverty in Sahel Area Countries¿, funded by Regione Piemonte. Research dealt in particular with the Experimental Station of Toukounous, Niger, which has been included for some years in such Program and in spite of some particularities can be considered as representative of the general condition of the country. The main factors affecting milk production have been initially taken into consideration, in particular the ones (such as climate and environmental factors) affecting livestock food availability and therefore livestock nature and productivity.
