Regole morali e convenzioni sociali a confronto

The goal of this thesis was to investigate the prevailing justifications of a group of 20 subjects relating to the distinction between moral dictates and social conventions. In the first place, a review was exhibited on the development of moral judgments in the philosophical sphere through the thought of Kant and Hume. Subsequently, significant psychological theories were analyzed starting with Piaget, Kohlberg and Turiel up to more recent theories such as Haidt's socio-intuitionist model, Hauser's moral grammar and Greene's dual-process theory. Particular importance was given to Johnson-Laird's theory of mental models, which predicts that reasoning is the basis of moral judgments. Finally, the experimental part aims to investigate the way in which individuals make distinctions between moral and conventional questions and how they justify this distinction.

L’obiettivo del presente lavoro di tesi è stato quello di indagare le giustificazioni prevalenti di un gruppo di 20 soggetti relative alla distinzione tra dettami morali e convenzioni sociali. In primo luogo, è stata esposta una rassegna sullo sviluppo dei giudizi morali in ambito filosofico attraverso il pensiero di Kant e Hume. Successivamente sono state analizzate significative teorie psicologiche a partire da Piaget, Kohlberg e Turiel fino ad arrivare a teorie più recenti quali il modello socio-intuizionista di Haidt, la grammatica morale di Hauser e la teoria del doppio processo di Greene. Particolare rilevanza è stata data alla teoria dei modelli mentali di Johnson-Laird, la quale prevede che alla base dei giudizi morali ci sia il ragionamento. Infine, la parte sperimentale mira ad indagare il modo attraverso cui gli individui effettuano distinzioni tra questioni morali e questioni convenzionali e come gli stessi giustificano tale distinzione.
