Starting with an overview of the origins of hip hop as a musical genre, the paper examines the main changes through some of the most significant music videos from key representatives of the genre. The thesis develops from the 1970s, when hip hop emerged as a musical genre and cultural movement, and continues with the analysis of videos starting from the early 1980s, showcasing the first examples of the genre, leading up to the present day with a discussion of the 1990s, 2000s, and the last decade just passed, analyzing the changes that occurred during these decades throughout the most significant videographic examples.

L’elaborato in questione si occupa di ripercorrere la storia e i cambiamenti che hanno caratterizzato i video musicali di genere hip hop. Partendo da una panoramica sulle origini dell’hip hop come genere musicale, l’elaborato ne ripercorre i principali cambiamenti attraverso alcuni dei video musicali più significativi di alcuni degli esponenti più importanti del genere. La tesi si sviluppa quindi a partire dagli anni ’70, in cui nasce l’hip hop come genere musicale e come movimento culturale, per proseguire con l’analisi dei video a partire dai primi anni ’80, con i primi esempi del genere, per giungere fino ai giorni nostri attraverso un discorso sugli anni’90, 2000 e sull’ultimo decennio appena trascorso, analizzando i cambiamenti avvenuti in questi decenni attraverso i più significativi esempi videografici
