Nuove funzioni per antiche architetture. Il recupero di edifici medievali per usi turistici

The present paper focuses on the restoration of medieval architectures that currently serves significant roles in the tourism sector. In particular, the buildings analyzed in this work function as hospitality structures, either as hotels or part of the restaurant industry. As for the selection of buildings, the scope is fairly narrow, as they are all located in the Piedmont region, reflecting the intent to stay within the Italian context and in a well-known area. The paper presents the historical and architectural development of each building, examining the various functions they have served over the centuries up to the present day, and ultimately reveals the function currently assigned to them. Through the analysis of four exemplary cases, it becomes clear how a building originally used for residential, territorial control, or religious purposes can be adapted to the changing needs and requirements over the centuries. This emphasizes the importance of adapting a building to the era it exists in to prevent its deterioration and eventual destruction. Moreover, a key aspect that emerges is the juxtaposition and coexistence of modern and ancient elements, and how this combination attracts interest. A building should not only be protected from decay but must also be adapted to meet current needs while preserving original elements that can witness to its origin and evolution.

Il presente elaborato ha come oggetto d’indagine il recupero di architetture medievali che attualmente svolgono funzioni rilevanti in ambito turistico. In particolar modo, gli edifici presi in analisi nell’elaborato svolgono una funzione ricettiva e sono quindi strutture alberghiere oppure inserite nel mondo della ristorazione. Relativamente alla scelta degli edifici, il raggio è piuttosto ristretto in quanto sono tutti situati in territorio piemontese per la volontà di rimanere in ambito italiano e in una zona ben nota. L’elaborato si occupa di presentare lo sviluppo storico ed architettonico di ciascun edificio, esaminando le molteplici funzioni che nei secoli ha svolto sino ad arrivare al giorno d’oggi e infine viene svelata la funzione che attualmente gli è attribuita. Attraverso l’analisi di quattro casi esemplificativi è possibile capire come un edificio che alla sua nascita svolge una funzione residenziale, di controllo del territorio oppure religiosa può essere riadattato alle esigenze e alle necessità che nel corso dei secoli cambiano e quanto sia importante l’adattamento di un edificio al tempo che vive per evitarne il deperimento e la finale distruzione. Inoltre, un aspetto fondamentale che emerge è l’accostamento e la convivenza tra moderno e antico e quanto questo elemento sia un attrattore di interesse. Non solo un edificio non deve essere abbandonato alla decadenza, ma deve anche essere adattato in modo da rispondere alle necessità che le persone manifestano pur mantenendo elementi originali che possano essere una testimonianza dell’origine e dell’evoluzione dell’edificio.
