Analisi sulle aree rurali ed il loro spopolamento.

Rural depopulation is a widespread and complex phenomenon that has its roots in a set of causes highly diversified and it may result in a progressive social and economic weakening of the affected areas. Indeed, rural areas are often characterized by selective migration, with highly educated people who leave rural areas; by shortage of essential services and few job opportunities. All this leads to what is called a “downward spiral” in which rural depopulation brings to negative effects that weaken the area and, in turn, become the cause of further depopulation. In this thesis, it will be addressed the theme of rural areas and their depopulation by means of multivariate analysis. In chapter one, it will be carried out an overview of the phenomenon, with a focus on Europe and Italy. Afterwards, we will focus on two important subjects when it comes to rural depopulation: rural areas’ classification methods and rural development policies taken to address this phenomenon. Chapter two and chapter three will be devoted to these topics. Lastly, in chapter four, the answers obtained from the questionnaire “Survey on rural depopulation” will be analyzed. The survey aims to investigate the most relevant aspects in choosing the place of residence and the degree of satisfaction about the services of the place of residence, taking into account both internal areas’ inhabitants and urban areas’ inhabitants.

Lo spopolamento rurale è un fenomeno estremamente diffuso e complesso, che affonda le sue radici in un insieme di cause molto ampio e può portare ad un progressivo indebolimento economico e sociale delle aree colpite. Infatti, i territori rurali sono spesso caratterizzati da migrazione selettiva, con persone in età da lavoro ed un elevato grado di istruzione che lasciano le aree interne; da scarsità di servizi essenziali e ridotte opportunità lavorative. Tutto ciò va a generare quella che viene definita “spirale di declino” in cui lo spopolamento rurale genera effetti negativi che indeboliscono l’area e che a loro volta diventano causa dello spopolamento stesso. In questo elaborato, verrà affrontato il tema delle aree rurali e del loro spopolamento con l’aiuto della statistica multivariata. Nel primo capitolo, verrà effettuata una panoramica del fenomeno, con un focus sull’Europa e l’Italia. Successivamente, ci si concentrerà su due aspetti molto importanti quando si parla di spopolamento rurale: i metodi di classificazione delle aree rurali e le politiche di sviluppo rurale attuate per contrastare tale fenomeno. A questi temi verranno dedicati rispettivamente, i capitoli due e tre. Infine, nel quarto capitolo, verranno analizzate le risposte ottenute dai partecipanti ad un questionario: “Indagine sullo spopolamento rurale”. Questionario volto ad indagare gli aspetti più rilevanti nella scelta del luogo di residenza e il grado di soddisfazione circa i servizi offerti dal luogo di residenza sia per gli abitanti delle aree interne italiane, sia per gli abitanti dei centri urbani.
