La censura in Unione Sovietica e nel conflitto russo-ucraino: due epoche a confronto

The subject of this paper is the analysis of the Russian censorship system and its functioning through a comparison of two very relevant historical moments in Russian history: the Soviet era and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict of 2022. The dissertation is divided into four parts: the first part briefly presents some historical background on the history of the Soviet Union from the Bolsheviks' seizure of power until its final collapse in 1991; the second part gets to the heart of the matter through an analysis of the structure and functioning of the Soviet censorship machine that worked at full speed until the introduction of Gorbachev's perestroika; the third part explains in a few pages the war between Russia and Ukraine, analysing the main reasons for the friction between the two countries that led to the outbreak of the conflict. The fourth and last part focuses on the censorship imposed by the Russian authorities since the start of the war, the measures taken not only against the media but also directly against dissident Russian journalists and the methods of circumvention they used. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyse the characteristics of the main censorship bodies employed at two different historical moments in order to detect similarities and differences between past and present.

Il presente elaborato ha come oggetto l’analisi del sistema di censura russo e il suo funzionamento attraverso un confronto fra due momenti storici molto rilevanti nella storia della Russia: l’epoca sovietica e il conflitto russo-ucraino del 2022. La tesi è articolata in quattro parti: la prima parte presenta brevemente alcuni cenni storici sulla storia dell’Unione Sovietica a partire dalla presa del potere dei bolscevichi fino al suo crollo definitivo nel 1991; la seconda parte entra nel vivo della questione attraverso l’analisi della struttura e del funzionamento della macchina censoria sovietica che ha lavorato a pieno ritmo fino all’introduzione della perestrojka gorbačëviana; la terza spiega in poche pagine la guerra tra Russia e Ucraina, analizzando i principali motivi degli attriti tra i due Paesi che hanno portato allo scoppio del conflitto. La quarta e ultima parte si focalizza sulla censura imposta dalle autorità russe dal momento dell’inizio della guerra, sulle misure prese non solo nei confronti dei mass media ma anche direttamente nei confronti di giornalisti dissidenti russi e sulle modalità di elusione impiegate da questi ultimi. L’obiettivo di questo studio è quindi analizzare le caratteristiche dei principali organi di censura impiegati in due differenti momenti storici al fine di rilevare affinità e differenze tra passato e presente.
