This thesis is devoted to deepening the cohomology of superspace and to investigating a possible off-shell extension of the D = 4 N = 2 rigid theory. To this aim, before entering into the main issue, it is necessary to introduce some relevant concepts. Thus, an overview on the role of solitons in field theories is presented, focusing on the finite-energy static configurations and giving some remarkable examples. Afterwards, an introduction to supersymmetry and its representations is provided and the importance of auxiliary fields in supersymmetric theories is outlined supplying some noteworthy instances in the N = 1 and in the N = 2 cases. Finally, the off-shell theory of a set of double-tensor multiplets is constructed in the rigid N = 2 superspace.
