La mostra "Arte Nuova" al Circolo degli Artisti di Torino nel 1959

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the exhibition Arte Nuova: International Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture; Ikebana by Sofu Teshigahara, organized at the Circolo degli Artisti in Turin between May and June 1959. The thesis is structured into three chapters. The first chapter explores the artistic context of Turin from the post-World War II period to the end of the 1950s, with a focus on the main organizers of the exhibition. The second chapter reconstructs the genesis of the exhibition and partially describes its setup, briefly illustrating the development of informal art in the various geographic areas represented: Europe, the United States, and Japan. Finally, the third chapter analyzes the mobilization for the sale of the exhibited works and examines the critical reception of the event through articles from newspapers and magazines.

L’obiettivo di questa tesi è analizzare la mostra Arte Nuova: esposizione internazionale di pittura e scultura; Ikebana di Sofu Teshigahara, organizzata presso il Circolo degli Artisti di Torino tra maggio e giugno 1959. La tesi si articola in tre capitoli. Nel primo capitolo, viene esplorato il contesto artistico di Torino dal secondo dopoguerra fino alla fine degli anni Cinquanta, con un focus sui principali organizzatori della mostra. Il secondo capitolo ricostruisce la genesi della mostra e descrive parzialmente l’allestimento e si illustra brevemente lo sviluppo dell’arte informale nelle diverse aree geografiche rappresentate: Europa, Stati Uniti e Giappone. Infine, nel terzo capitolo, si analizza la mobilitazione per la vendita delle opere esposte e si esamina la ricezione critica dell’evento attraverso articoli di quotidiani e riviste.
