Oltre i pregiudizi razziali. Educare alla diversità tra scuola ed extrascuola.

Episodes of discrimination and marginalization are too frequent in our society, however they are nothing more than the result of past events that have marked history and which continue to influence our everyday lives. It would therefore be appropriate, today more than ever, as we find ourselves in a multicultural society, to put an end to prejudice and fear towards those who are different, in order to encourage openness to new knowledge and opportunities. In fact, peaceful coexistence between the various ethnic groups is fundamental, which often becomes stimulating from many points of view; knowing someone who has a different history from ours and who has different habits and traditions opens our minds, making us curious and not limiting ourselves only to what we are used to seeing or thinking. This change can start from the education and training of younger people in schools, which will be preceded by an equally careful and accurate training of teachers. It is important, therefore, that the teacher knows how to orientate himself and how to guide his students in carrying out a training activity, in order to be able to achieve the objectives he has set.

Troppo frequenti sono gli episodi discriminatori e di emarginazione nella nostra società, tuttavia essi non sono altro che il risultato di eventi passati che hanno segnato la storia e che continuano ad influenzare la nostra vita di ogni giorno. Sarebbe quindi opportuno, oggi più che mai, trovandoci in una società multiculturale, dare fine al pregiudizio e alla paura verso il diverso, in modo da favorire l’apertura a nuove conoscenze ed opportunità. È infatti fondamentale una convivenza pacifica tra le varie etnie, che spesso diventa stimolante sotto molti punti di vista; conoscere qualcuno che ha una storia diversa dalla nostra e che ha abitudini e tradizioni differenti apre le nostre menti, rendendoci curiosi e non limitandoci soltanto a ciò che siamo abituati a vedere o pensare. Questo cambiamento può cominciare a partire dall’educazione e dalla formazione dei più giovani nelle scuole, che sarà preceduta da una altrettanto attenta e accurata formazione dei docenti. È importante, pertanto, che il docente sappia come orientarsi e come guidare i propri studenti nello svolgimento di un’attività formativa, in modo da riuscire a raggiungere gli obiettivi che si era prefissato.
