The early marriage situation has been popular in many countries around the world, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) and South Asia, including India, Bangladesh, Cambodia and other countries. This phenomenon is a gross violation of human rights which including gender inequality, sexual and maternal health, gender based violence, scarce working opportunities and so on. India is influenced by this phenomenon for a long time. There are complex religious, historical and social reasons for the persistence of early marriage in India. With the awakening of national consciousness and women's movements, India has introduced a series of legal reforms to prohibit child marriages and protect teenagers’ rights. However, the Covid-19 pandemic pushing more people into poverty, kids are forced drop out of school, get married and take on family responsibilities. Moreover, child marriage bring a lot of negative influences of teenagers’ life, they get greater risk of physical and sexual violence, dangerous complications such as HIV infection, cervical cancer and so on. This paper discussing the child marriage from different perspectives, in order to understand the historical and social context of early marriage and the problems it brings.
