One of the fundamental aspects of managerial action in modern companies is the measurement and management of performance. In this dissertation the aim is to illustrate the critical planning and operation junctions of the detection and evaluation performance system in order to achieve and maintain competitive excellence. Some of the performance management models covered are: profitability management along the product life cycle, activity based-costing, target costing techniques, strategic control and the balanced scorecard. In addition, the concepts of Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse, Big Data Analytics systems are examined, up to Predictive Analytics and Machine Learning systems, as the world of the factory is on the threshold of the "Fourth industrial revolution" (Industry 4.0.) and technological innovation is advancing at a fast pace, changing business scenarios and favoring companies that know how to grasp the Digital Transformation, conveyed by new IT platforms and analytics. The innovative potential brought by Business Intelligence, Data Mining and Big Data Analytics methodologies is undisputed with reference to profitability, competitiveness, optimization of production processes, innovation and reduction of waste and costs in the various business functions analyzed. In addition, a successful business case of using performance management is examined through the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard and Strategy Map.
