La diffusione di Internet e dei Social Media: gli effetti e i rischi della rete sociale.

The idea is to develop a thesis on the development of the Internet and social media, an exhaustive explanation of how the invention of social media has completely changed people's lives. The argumentation is developed over the course of 4 chapters, briefly retracing some salient parts of the Internet's historical course. In order to do this, it will start from the phenomenon of globalisation, a factor of social and economic transformation, which has modified both the dynamics of socialisation and the processes of consumption; up to the identification of the most accredited social media, such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, trying to describe as much as possible their peculiar characteristics and the relative diffusion data in the world, explaining the motivations behind the choice of using social. Then, the various generations using social media today will be described in detail, from the Silent Generation to the more recent Alpha Generation. Subsequently, there will be a review of the main statistical data regarding the enormous diffusion of social media among the various generations and their methods and timing of use. Finally, the last part of the thesis aims to describe the possible consequences and effects on the mind caused by the inexpert and excessive use of social media, especially among the very young generations. It will be interesting to note, in fact, how the very young are increasingly at risk of falling victim to cyberbullying, extreme challenges or outright Internet addiction (IAD). This thesis is not intended as a simple negative description of new technologies, since these also offer great opportunities in terms of knowledge, simplification, and communication skills. But it must be understood as a proactive critique, aimed yes at identifying the risks, but also at finding possible solutions for the well-being of the new generations and on the advisability of providing adequate training in their use and informing them of the potential risks that a user, even more so if minor, may incur.

L’idea è sviluppare una Tesi che verta sullo sviluppo di Internet e dei Social Media, una spiegazione esauriente di come l’invenzione dei social abbia completamente modificato la vita di tutte le persone. L’argomentazione si sviluppa nel corso di 4 capitoli, ripercorrendo brevemente alcune parti salienti del percorso storico della rete. Per fare ciò si partirà dal fenomeno della globalizzazione, fattore di trasformazione sociale ed economico, che ha modificato tanto le dinamiche di socializzazione quanto i processi di consumo; fino ad arrivare all’individuazione dei più accreditati social media, come Facebook, Instagram e TikTok, cercando di descriverne il più possibile le caratteristiche peculiari e i relativi dati di diffusione nel mondo, spiegando le motivazioni che risiedono alla base della scelta di avvalersi dei social. Verranno poi descritte nel dettaglio le varie generazioni che oggi utilizzano i Social Media, dalla Silent Generation alla più recente Generazione Alpha. Successivamente, si procederà ad una rassegna dei principali dati statistici circa l’enorme diffusione dei Social Media tra le varie generazioni e le loro modalità e tempistiche di utilizzo. Infine, l’ultima parte della tesi mira a descrivere le possibili conseguenze ed effetti sulla mente causati dall’utilizzo inesperto ed eccessivo dei social media, soprattutto tra le generazioni dei giovanissimi. Sarà interessante notare, infatti. come i giovanissimi sono sempre più a rischio di rimanere vittima di cyberbullismo, di challenges estreme o da una vera e propria dipendenza di Internet (IAD). Questa tesi non vuole una semplice descrizione negativa delle nuove tecnologie, dal momento che queste offrono anche grandi opportunità in termini di conoscenza, semplificazione e di capacità comunicativa. Ma deve essere intesa come una critica propositiva, volta sì all’individuazione dei rischi, ma anche alla ricerca di possibili soluzioni per il benessere delle nuove generazioni e sull’opportunità di fornire un’adeguata formazione all’uso delle stesse e informare sui potenziali rischi in cui un utente, ancor più se minore, può incorrere.
