In the attempt to better understand the connection between socio-economic distress and anti-immigration sentiments, some studies exploited the negative socio-economic shock brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. This happened also with the outbreak of Ebola epidemic. The negative shock, amplified by the provision of information on the crisis’ negative economic and health consequences, was indeed found to be causally related to increased anti-immigration sentiments and demand for fiscal pressure retrenchment. However, little or no evidence is so far available in Italy about Covid-19 pandemic, especially on how individual perceptions of the intensity of migration flows during periods of pandemic and lockdown periods affected individuals’ social and anti-immigration attitudes. Moreover, the information spread by social media channels, as well as politicians’ information campaigns, may have influenced social and anti-immigration approaches.

Abstract
In the attempt to better understand the connection between socio-economic distress and anti-immigration sentiments, some studies exploited the negative socio-economic shock brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, the information spread by social media channels, as well as politicians’ information campaigns, may have influenced social and anti-immigration approaches.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
