Abstract

Environmental issues have gained increasing importance in recent decades in the social sphere, mainly due to disastrous events, sometimes punctual, others extended, they did reflect on the 'uniqueness and importance of the' environment in which we live. Moreover, scientific progress concurrently (symbiosis) with technological innovation, have made an amount of data and wide case studies available, which though not sufficient in all cases, is enough to bring out a stronger environmental awareness. The topic of the present work is focused on soil contamination, in particular about nickel and chromium, and case studies will be reported in similar environments, with regard to Piedmont's geological constitution; also the discrimination between natural component (background value) and anthropogenic redistribution will be analyzed, using the definitions that the discipline offers. A short description of what mean the term ¿heavy metals¿ and what are the interactions with living organisms will be the introduction to the central argument; in the final part of the report, we describe the current situation of the Piedmont soils regard to the aspect under consideration.
