ADOLESCENTI E NUOVI MEDIA.Il fenomeno e la sfida che esso pone all'educazione

Contemporary adolescents, as digital natives, maintain a very close relationship with the new media, which have become essential vehicles to express themselves, to create and to strengthen their relationships/friendships. They support socialization and the construction of their identity, however, at the same time, they hide some dangers for their image and their safety. Furthermore, overexploitation of the network can bring about addiction and social isolation. Considering this dual aspect, typical of modern technology, focusing on the evolutionary charges of the teen-agers' growth and the meanings that new media assume for young people, this thesis aims to consider the role that parents or adults play in the educational process of adolescents, in a professional environment too. The increasing privatization of media consumption increases autonomy of young people and reduces the possibility of any control. Parents have to face new responsibilities: they have to stop underestimating the effects that new technology can have on their children's lives and they have to gain correct digital skills, but at the same time they have to pay attention to the "virtual life" too. Active mediation, dialogue, and participation in network activities are available means of protection. Education Services too, have to face a new challenge. The description of experiences of professional support addressed to young people in the context of an Association of Municipalities for the management of Social Services and pedagogical reflections together with working projects hypothesis underline the need for a new field of action oriented to prevention and education for a more conscious use of new media.

Gli adolescenti moderni, in qualità di nativi digitali, intrattengono un rapporto molto stretto con i nuovi media, divenuti strumenti indispensabili per esprimersi, creare e rafforzare relazioni. Essi supportano la socializzazione e la costruzione dell'identità, ma al contempo, nascondono pericoli per la propria immagine ed incolumità; l'uso eccessivo della rete può inoltre generare dipendenza ed isolamento sociale. Considerando tale duplice aspetto che caratterizza le moderne tecnologie, approfondendo i compiti evolutivi della fase di crescita adolescenziale ed significati che i nuovi media assumono per i ragazzi, questa tesi si propone di esplorare il possibile ruolo educativo del genitore o dell'adulto che si relaziona con l'adolescente, anche in ambito professionale. La crescente privatizzazione del consumo mediale accresce l'autonomia del giovane e riduce la possibilità di un controllo. I genitori sono posti di fronte a nuove responsabilità: occorre smettere di sottovalutare l'incidenza delle tecnologie nella vita dei figli ed acquisire corrette competenze digitali, con attenzione anche alla ¿vita virtuale¿. La mediazione attiva, il dialogo, la condivisione di attività in rete sono possibili percorsi di tutela. Anche i Servizi Educativi sono posti di fronte ad una nuova sfida. La descrizione di esperienze professionali di aiuto rivolte ai minori ed agli adolescenti nell'ambito di un Consorzio Intercomunale per la gestione dei Servizi Socio-Assistenziali, seguite da riflessioni pedagogiche e ipotesi progettuali, spingono a riconoscere la necessità di un nuovo campo di intervento: la prevenzione e l'educazione ad un uso consapevole dei nuovi media .
