ὥσπερ ἐν σάλῳ ψαύουσαν. Una prospettiva filosofico-religiosa sulla verbalizzazione del pensiero divino: il De Pythiae oraculis di Plutarco.

This thesis aims to offer an analysis of Plutarch’s treatise De Pythiae oraculis, first retracing the issues related to its inclusion in the group of Pythici Dialogi and then examining in depth the testimony regarding the prophetess’s possession and the discussion on the linguistic form of her responses. The comparison between the figure of the Pythia of the time and that of the legendary Sibyl will provide the necessary preamble to the investigation into the problem of the relationship of prose with the legacy of poetry. We will therefore also look at the testimonies of other authors of the imperial age, addressing the debate both on a rhetorical level and in a philosophical perspective.

Il presente lavoro si propone di offrire un’analisi del trattato De Pythiae oraculis di Plutarco, ripercorrendo prima le questioni relative al suo inserimento nel gruppo dei Pythici Dialogi e approfondendo poi la testimonianza circa l’invasamento della profetessa e la discussione sulla forma linguistica dei suoi responsi. Il confronto tra la figura della Pizia dell’epoca e quella della leggendaria Sibilla fornirà il necessario preambolo all’indagine sul problema del rapporto della prosa con l’eredità della poesia. Si guarderà quindi anche alle testimonianze di altri autori di età imperiale, affrontando il dibattito sia su un piano retorico sia in prospettiva filosofica.
