This study begins by exploring the status of the right to information in international law. It analyzes key international and regional human rights instruments to determine how, and to what extent, these instruments acknowledge and protect the right to access information. In doing so, the research not only evaluates the textual recognition of this right but also delves into the interpretations provided by human rights Treaty Bodies and the evolving case law of regional human rights courts, which have played a significant role in shaping its legal contours. Following the examination of the international legal framework, the study shifts focus to how the right to information is incorporated and enforced at the national level. It assesses both constitutional provisions and specific legislation enacted to safeguard this right, offering a detailed assessment of the legal structures that support the right across different jurisdictions. While implementation and enforcement are crucial to realizing the right to information, this study’s primary objective is to understand how firmly the right is anchored in both international and national legal systems, laying the groundwork for future research that could address practical challenges in its application.
