General equilibrium theory considers decisions made by individuals while it leaves aside the role of families in the decision-making process. When we consider household consumption and saving, female labour supply, number of children in the family and their level of education, our analysis will be more realistic if we use a model that deals with household decision-making. Many different approaches have been used in order to introduce households in the economic theory. Several household decision-making models will be analysed describing their main features, showing some results and explaining how these theoretical models can be used in empirical research.

Abstract
General equilibrium theory considers decisions made by individuals while it leaves aside the role of families in the decision-making process. When we consider household consumption and saving, female labour supply, number of children in the family and their level of education, our analysis will be more realistic if we use a model that deals with household decision-making. Many different approaches have been used in order to introduce households in the economic theory. Several household decision-making models will be analysed describing their main features, showing some results and explaining how these theoretical models can be used in empirical research.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
