Distopia, corpo e tecnologia nella Prima Trilogia de La Fura dels Baus

La Fura dels Baus is a Catalan theatre company, recognized worldwide and synonymous with innovation and uniqueness. Their works stem from admiration and love for their homeland and traditions, which they then merge with avant-garde technological influences to provoke the audience to reflect on the relationship between humans and technology. With their approach, they completely immerse the viewer in the performance, breaking the traditional distance between stage and audience. The company's artistic journey has evolved through different phases but has always centered around key themes: the body, its control, and the dynamics that arise when it encounters power. Another fundamental element in La Fura's works is technology, which serves both as a recurring theme and as a tool for creation. Body and technology are also the two central elements of the dystopian genre, a genre from which this artistic group often draws inspiration. In my thesis, I intend to demonstrate how the relationship between dystopia, body, and technology in La Fura's work is what sets them apart, and how this remains a recurring theme in their art today. After analyzing their artistic trajectory and exploring the dystopian genre along with the body-technology relationship, I will examine their First Trilogy of performances: Accions, Suz/o/Suz, and Tier Mon. I will conclude with an overview of their more recent works, highlighting how La Fura dels Baus has managed to maintain a well-defined artistic identity despite their forty-five years of activity. Additionally, I will discuss my experience working with the Fundación Épica during the Workshop#20 – Redes Neuronales, reflecting on their working methods and their relationship with science and technology.

La Fura dels Baus, compagnia teatrale e artistica catalana tra le più famose al mondo, è da sempre sinonimo di innovazione e singolarità. Le sue opere nascono dall’ammirazione e dall’amore per la sua terra e le sue tradizioni, per poi abbracciare una contaminazione tecnologica e all’avanguardia attraverso la quale stuzzica il pubblico a ragionare sul rapporto tra l’uomo e la tecnologia. Con il suo metodo immerge completamente lo spettatore nell’opera, obbligandolo a eliminare quella distanza tra palco e platea tipica del teatro. Il percorso artistico della compagnia ha attraversato diverse fasi, ma sempre con continui rimandi al corpo, al suo controllo e al rapporto che ne consegue quando viene a contatto con un determinato potere. Un altro elemento fondamentale delle opere furere è la tecnologia, sia come elemento ricorrente negli spettacoli, che come mezzo impiegato per realizzarli. Corpo e tecnologia sono anche i due elementi cardini del genere distopico, genere dalla quale questo gruppo artistico ha preso spesso ispirazione per le sue opere. Nella mia tesi intendo dimostrare come il rapporto tra distopia, corpo e tecnologia nell’opera furera sia ciò che l’ha contraddistinta e come, ancora oggi, sia un elemento ricorrente nella sua arte. Dopo aver analizzato il percorso artistico del gruppo di Moià e dopo aver ragionato sul genere distopico e sul rapporto corpo-tecnologia, analizzerò la Prima Trilogia di spettacoli formata da Accions, Suz/o/Suz e Tier Mon. Infine, concluderò con una panoramica sui lavori più recenti, evidenziando come La Fura dels Baus riesca a mantenere un’identità artistica ben definita nonostante i quarantacinque anni di attività. Tratterò anche della mia esperienza nel lavorare con la Fundación Épica durante il Workshop#20 – Redes Neuronales, argomentando sul suo metodo di lavoro e sul suo rapporto con la scienza e la tecnologia.
