Il Disturbo Dissociativo dell'Identità nella sua controversa evoluzione diagnostica. Il caso Milligan

The matter of my job of thesis deepens the Dissociative Trouble of Personality, which being particularly ample has brought me to select a clinical case or the history of the American criminal Billy Milligan. One of the particularities of the history are due to the fact that this last has been the first one, in the American judicial history, to be acquitted for mental infirmity. The key to elaborate and to direct the theme concerns the concept of Psychological Diagnosis in his/her historical evolution, containing those that have been the changes, the finishing lines and the polemics in the definition and acceptance of such trouble. I believe that the Milligan Case has given a good touch of practicality to the theoretical aspect that I have deepened, underlining really that passages of its history in which the trouble totally passes from the unknown being and refused to the being not only identified but inclusive and approved.

L'argomento del mio lavoro di tesi approfondisce il Disturbo Dissociativo di Personalità, il quale essendo particolarmente ampio mi ha portato a selezionare un caso clinico, ovvero la storia del criminale statunitense Billy Milligan. Una delle particolarità della storia è dovuta al fatto che quest'ultimo sia stato il primo, nella storia giudiziaria americana, ad essere assolto per infermità mentale. La chiave per elaborare e orientare il tema riguarda il concetto di Diagnosi Psicologica nella sua evoluzione storica, racchiudendo quelli che sono stati i cambiamenti, i traguardi e le polemiche nella definizione e accettazione di tale disturbo. Credo che il Caso Milligan abbia dato un buon tocco di praticità all'aspetto teorico che ho approfondito, evidenziando proprio quei passaggi della sua storia in cui il disturbo passa dall'essere totalmente sconosciuto e rifiutato all'essere non solo identificato ma compreso e accettato.
