The stroke is a leading cause of disability after acute. This shows the importance of problem both from the social point of view that from the clinical point of view. The nurse's role is to follow the patient already with regard to primary prevention and than with the secondary. The objective of this work is to analyze the etiopathogenesis and risk factors of the disease, identifying some of the roles that nurses can play in prevention procedures. With regard to materials and methods, have been used scientifically recognized journal articles, databases PubMed and Evidence Based Nursing, chapters of treatises on medicine and nursing, the material of A.L.I.Ce no-profit organization Cuneo and Guidelines SPREAD (Stroke Prevention And Educational Awareness Diffusion). Were excluded from the research articles with advertising content of Pharmaceutical Companies and those of dobious origins. Based on our review of retrieved literature, has been called the nature of stroke, were identified risk factors and has been punctuated the importance of nurse's role of education for primary and secondary prevention of the disease. In conclusion, we can say that properly educating people about modifiable and not-modifiable risk factors, indicating how to correct habits or diseases at risk, you can reduce the incidence of stroke.
