The food supply system has to adapt to a growing world population, as well as to an economic development, that is causing not only a demand for more food but also for different foods. Studies on human nutrition (Grigg, 1995; Popkin, 2006) have shown that worldwide a nutrition transition is taking place, in which people shift towards more affluent food consumption patterns, typically animal source foods. Consumption and production of protein derived from animals have, however, more significant environmental, social and public health impacts than proteins derived from plants. Therefore, this study investigates the transition caused by economic growth in the consumption of animal derived and plant-based protein in different regions of the world. Using statistical methodologies on data from the FAO and the World Bank, I explore trends between animal and plant proteins consumption and income from 1961 to 2013 for six countries aggregates.

Abstract
Using statistical methodologies on data from the FAO and the World Bank, I explore trends between animal and plant proteins consumption and income from 1961 to 2013 for six countries aggregates.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
