Gli effetti cumulativi del microtrauma. Un'analisi sul pensiero di Margaret Crastnopol

My thesis is about the analysis of cumulative effects of microtrauma, considered to be a condition of psychic injury which can hardly be identified because of its often inaccessible character. In the first chapter I decided to retrace the formation of Margaret Crastnopol, her different professional fields of interest and her publications, in order to understand the genesis of her thought and what kind of theoretical assumptions allowed the formulation of the concept of microtrauma. For this reason, the attention was drawn to several articles she wrote that are considered representative of some important aspects of her thought that is focused on the theme of relationship. In particular also I decided to analyze one of these articles and then to compare it with a critical review of another psychoanalyst. The second chapter was on the heart of the Margaret Crastnopol's production by analyzing some of the main concepts expressed in her book ¿Micro-trauma: A Psychoanalytic Understanding of Cumulative Psychic Injury¿ in order to understand the meaning attributed to the term microtrauma, its origin and the various creative definitions that this concept could take. This analysis was accompanied by the presentation of several reviews wrote by different psychoanalysts who showed agreement or criticism about the thesis of Margaret Crastnopol in order to understand the different answers of the psychoanalytic community focusing on divergent voices but precisely for this enriching and stimulating. The third chapter, instead, was dedicated to a commentary on two different types of microtrauma described by Crastnopol, called "uneasy intimacy" and "psychic airbrushing and excessive niceness" with the aim of more specifically observing the manner in which these microtraumatic relations were expounded, and understand how it functions as an explanatory paradigm. The two types of microtrauma respectively indicate a condition of uncomfortable intimacy where a relationship is established too early but does not allow real reciprocal knowledge while the second one refers to a situation of psychic retaking characterized by a denial of its own or other defects, with the result of a relationship that does not fit as authentic. Finally, I decided to dedicate the concluding pages of the thesis to a brief interview with the author to address some conclusive questions that would allow to have an inner look on the subject matter.

Il seguente elaborato di tesi ha come tema l'analisi degli effetti cumulativi del microtrauma considerato come condizione di malessere psichico difficilmente individuabile a causa del suo carattere spesso poco visibile. All'interno del primo capitolo si è scelto di ripercorrere la formazione di Margaret Crastnopol, i diversi ambiti professionali a cui si è dedicata e le sue pubblicazioni al fine di comprendere dove si annidi la genesi del suo pensiero e quali siano stati i presupposti teorici che hanno poi consentito la formulazione del concetto di microtrauma. Per questo motivo l'attenzione è stata rivolta a diversi articoli da lei redatti considerati rappresentativi di alcuni elementi fondanti il suo pensiero, che riportava al centro il tema della relazione, e in particolar modo si è scelto di analizzarne uno confrontandolo con una review critica da parte di un'altra psicanalista. Il secondo capitolo è stato invece rivolto al cuore della produzione di Margaret Crastnopol, attraverso l'analisi di alcuni concetti principali del libro Micro-trauma: A Psychoanalytic Understanding of Cumulative Psychic Injury in modo da comprendere il significato attribuito al termine microtrauma, la sua origine e le diverse declinazioni originali che questo poteva assumere. A ciò si è affiancata l'esposizione di varie review redatte da diversi psicanalisti che mostravano accordo o critiche nei confronti del testo oggetto di attenzione, al fine di comprendere la riflessione suscitata nella comunità psicanalitica, ponendo l'attenzione su voci divergenti ma proprio per questo arricchenti e stimolanti. Il terzo capitolo invece è stato dedicato ad un commento a due diverse tipologie di microtrauma descritte dalla Crastnopol ovvero ¿uneasy intimacy¿ e ¿psychic airbrushing and excessive niceness¿ con l'obiettivo di osservare in modo più specifico la modalità con cui si esplicitassero tali relazioni microtraumatiche e comprenderne il funzionamento come paradigma esplicativo. I due tipi di microtrauma indicano rispettivamente una condizione di intimità a disagio dove si instaura un rapporto troppo precocemente non consentendo tuttavia una reale conoscenza reciproca mentre il secondo fa riferimento ad una situazione di ritoccaggio psichico caratterizzata da una negazione dei difetti propri o altrui, con la conseguenza di un rapporto che non si configura come autentico. Infine si è poi scelto di dedicare le pagine conclusive dell'elaborato di tesi ad una breve intervista con l'autrice per rivolgerle alcune domande conclusive che consentissero di avere uno sguardo interno sul tema trattato.
