The purpose of this thesis is to describe the development of China's ICT sector, its related governmental policies and integration of high-technology into the private sector since the reforms started in 1978. The analysis will discuss the features of Chinese S&T environment and the strong linkage amongst Chinese government and the innovation system. The fast growth of this sector is due to the reform policies that Chinese government launched since 1978. The ICT sector also represents the huge changes that occurred in China. It has improved its manufacturing industry, with inward and outward FDI. Then, Chinese indigenous innovation skills are increasing as fast as China is investing more in R&D. Thanks to the indigenous innovation and the FDI, the ICT market sectors in China is very dynamic. These and the next years will be crucial for the revolution of the traditional industry and the role that will be played by OBOR countries will be fundamental for Chinese ICT Market. China has already its internet giant companies, that have the important opportunity to became global player. China seems to have the chance to change the actual status quo. South Korea, USA, India are the most fearsome rivals but at the same time sources of teaching and cooperation partners. A Country in its Innovation Path, how much relies on itself and how much relies on the cooperation between countries? This hyperconnected world cut many boundaries, but a state can still show its sovereignty in such a key sector? In the first chapter we will look at the Innovation Theories and how they can influence the real economy. In the second Chapter we will look at China's ICT development and its main successful companies. In the third chapter we will compare ICT development in India, USA and South Korea.
